| Lane, Ronnie - Ronnie Lane's Slim Chance
|
(Island ILPS-9321 UK-75 VG+ 375:-)
Really great solo work from Ronnie Lane - post-Faces material that really gets back to basics, and offers up a huge number of wonderful original tunes as well!
Ronnie was always one of the more unassuming members of The Faces and almost the sort of gentle heart of the band - a quality that really comes through strongly here. The tunes often use acoustic instrumentation more than electric - at a level that recalls the first early solo sets by Rod Stewart, although with a very different, un-posturing presentation.

| Laraaji - Ambient 3: Day of Radiance
|
(Editions EG EGAMB-003 UK-80 VG+ 500:-)
Other-worldly genius from the legendary Laraaji – a really special record that was done in collaboration with Brian Eno – as part of Eno's classic Ambient series at the end of the 70s – and as a way of showcasing some of the "fourth world" sounds that he was working in at the time!
The album's got a special something extra compared to other Laraaji albums – a sonic clarity that Eno brings to the hammered zither lines and rhythms – in ways that really transform the acoustic sounds, and almost showcase them with a similar forward-thinking quality as Eno's electronic work. Yet the music isn't electronic at all, and maybe far warmer in tone than any of the other Ambient records.

| Lennon & Yoko Ono - Sometime in NYC
|
(Apple SVBB-3392 US-72 VG+ 300:-)
The most polarizing of John Lennon's post Beatles ouvre – the strident, Spector-produced, sprawling mess that is "Sometime in New York City" – a record that has too much of every idea John & Yoko had at the time, which makes it all the more fascinating after all these years!
Original US pressing; complete with a petition for John & Yoko to remain in the US, and a 3.5" x 5" postcard. The gatefold has a 5cm split at the top.

(Apple PCSP-716 UK-72 VG+ 300:-)

Angry, self-righteous and quite often brilliant – feminist anthems backed by Wall Of Sound pop, an ode to John Sinclair in the mold of a country rock tune – wild stuff from a superstar! Frank Zappa and the Mothers on side four!
Original UK pressing; complete with inners and postcard.

| Lennon, John - Imagine
|
(Apple 1C-064-04914 Ger-?? VG+ 375:-)
Not the out there primal scream of Plastic Ono, and more of an impeccably produced, easy to love landmark from John Lennon! The title track, beautiful as it is, is so heavily ingrained into rock & roll myth making machine that it's become too easy to overlook how great most of the songs on the album are. It must be the most consistent of John's LPs post-Beatles, and it's just about as essential as they come.
German re-issue, complete with printed innersleeve, poster and postcard.
