National Health - National Health
(Affinity ‎AFF-6 UK-78 VG+ 375:-)

National Health was one of the last of the great "Canterbury-style" progressive rock bands.

With complex keyboards parts from Dave Stewart combined with the stunning guitar work of Phil Miller, the band's eponymous debut is one of the most important albums of the Canterbury scene.
Next Morning - Next Morning
(Calla SC-2002 US-71 VG/VG+ 800:-)

Take four musicians from the Caribbean, relocate them to New York and start filling their heads with the Who, Chambers Brothers, Sly and the Family Stone and Jimi Hendrix. After they become the tightest and most talked about rock band in the city, have them cut their debut album in something like three hours.

This is the scenario of the Next Morning, a band of Caribbean immigrants who cut this amazing little piece of psychedelia around 1970 that literally drip with trippy, fuzzed over and phasey vibes. Another lost classic.
Niagara - Classic German Rock Scene
(United Artists UAS-29.778/79XB Ger-75 VG+ 500:-)

German drummer Klaus Weiss started out in more conventional jazz during the 60s – but as the 70s moved in, he really found his groove – and opened up strongly in styles that were funky, spiritual, and sometimes hard to define!

That latter is definitely the case here – as Weiss leads an all-percussion session that does an amazing job of creating criss-crossing elements of rhythm and melody throughout!
Nico - Chelsea Girl
(MGM Select 2353.025 UK-78 VG+ 500:-)

One of the greatest records of the 60s – and a sublime debut from Nico, sounding fresher and less dreary here than on many of her later sides – although still pretty chilling overall!

The record features larger orchestral backings on most tracks – never too heavy, but with light strings that really help Nico depart from the sound of her work with The Velvet Underground. This style adds a new level of sophistication to her vocals, and really helps in her interpretation of the unusual material culled for the set – tunes that include a few key numbers by old partners in The Velvets, as well as some especially great tracks by a young Jackson Browne – a romantic interest of Nico at the time! The whole thing's incredible – on a par with the best from Scott Walker during the same stretch, although very different overall – and a key entry in the darker side of the non-hippie end of the 60s spectrum.
Nugent, Ted - Motor City Mayhem
(Back On Black ‎RCV077LP UK-13 SS 800:-)

July 4, 2008, was a landmark night in the 41-year touring career of Detroit’s own Ted Nugent, as he performed his 6,000th show to a raucous hometown crowd. A celebration of life, a celebration of Motor City rock 'n roll and, on this night, a celebration of over 40 years of touring to all corners of the earth.
